The best part of an adventure is bringing that sun-kissed, high-altitude happiness back home with you. An original painting is your direct tether to those magical moments—complete with actual peak coordinates, subtle conservation notes, and unapologetic, feel-good color.
Swap out the bland factory art for something brimming with heart, energy, and genuine connection. These original works are here to spark smiles, share happy memories, and bring the warmth of the western wilds into your everyday routine. Made to be cherished for a lifetime, these one-of-a-kind originals are a daily invitation to dream of your next adventure and celebrate the wild places that make your soul sing.
The striking pinks, vibrant oranges, and sun-lit yellows of this original painting capture the intense brilliance of a high summer day in Patagonia. Zoomed in close so the small structure fills the frame, High Noon at La Posada focuses on the strength of a modest, resilient building beneath the long hours of the afternoon sun. Back in the studio, I drew directly from my memories of exploring the many secondary outbuildings that dot the legacy grounds of La Posada de Los Farios. The brilliant contrast between the building's warm pink tones and the glowing yellow grasses at its base brings an immediate, joyful energy to the canvas. Bold brushstrokes transform a small outbuilding into a vibrant, mighty centerpiece. May this piece bring bright energy, lingering summer warmth, and a splash of joyful color into your space.

Deep in the backcountry, tucked into aspen groves or perched precariously over mountain rivers, you will find them: the weathered cabins, forgotten mills, and quiet ghost towns that time left behind. This collection is a celebration of these resilient structures that refuse to yield to the elements. By pairing the rough, historic textures of these relics with a vivid, unexpected palette of electric blues, dreamlike purples, and warm alpenglow pinks, I wanted to breathe new life into these historic spaces. These paintings are a tribute to the spirit of the backcountry, the stories built into old timber, and the quiet magic of places that are still standing.
Behind the Studio Doors: The Story & Process
Beyond the frame lies a true backcountry memory. Before this canvas was painted, it was lived. High Noon at La Posada was born from exploring the legacy grounds of a remote cattle ranch clinging to the Cisnes River in Chile. As gauchos moved cattle across the property in the late afternoon light, these humble, secondary ranch buildings stood watch along the water, carrying decades of history and creative maintenance in their old timbers.
Back in the studio, I wanted to capture the mighty presence of this small structure under the long, bright days of summer. Zooming in close to focus on its strength, I chose a powerful palette of bright pinks and intense oranges to contrast against the glowing yellow grasses at its feet. It is not just a painting of an outbuilding. It is a celebration of resilient structures, vibrant color contrasts, and the slow, beautiful rhythm of life in Patagonia.

The radiant pinks and sun-drenched blues of this original painting capture the vibrant, soaking warmth of an afternoon in Patagonia. Zoomed in close so the historic structure fills the frame, Glow on the Old Barn focuses entirely on the electric energy of the summer sun radiating off weathered wood. Back in the studio, I drew directly from my memories of our time on that remote river ranch along Chile’s Cisnes River. I channeled the simple, joyful mood of pausing under the open sky, stretching in the grass, and soaking in the light alongside this old building. Bold, intentional brushstrokes transform an aging ranch structure into a punchy, modern focal point. May this piece bring a wave of joyful energy, brilliant warmth, and vibrant color into your space.

Behind the Studio Doors: The Story & Process
Beyond the frame lies a true backcountry memory. Before this canvas was painted, it was lived. Glow on the Old Barn was born during an adventurous trip to La Posada de Los Farios along Chile’s Cisnes River. Between fishing runs on the water, my sister and I spent quiet mornings stretching on the grass in the warm Patagonian sunshine, watching the light hit the weathered timber of the ranch outbuildings.
Back in the studio, I wanted to capture that exact feeling of soaking in the joy of the summer sun. Zooming in close so the building fills the frame, I used bold brushstrokes and an energetic palette of radiant pinks and blues to translate that sunlit warmth onto wood panel. It is not just a painting of an old barn. It is a concentrated dose of joyful energy and a celebration of the restful, rejuvenating moments found deep in wild places.

The pink, blue, and shadow-drenched hues of this original painting depict the quiet, steady presence of a Patagonian summer day. Tucked beneath large poplar trees on a remote working cattle ranch along Chile’s Cisnes River, an aging barn stands as a gentle anchor against the shifting light and fluid greenery surrounding it. This piece plays with the contrast between geometric structure and the soft, organic wildness of the landscape. While the actual building bears the gray wood of decades past, vibrant shades of pink and cool blue emphasize its distinct, enduring spirit amidst the trees. Through these unexpected colors and bold angles, Shade of the Summer Barn captures the slow rhythm of ranch life and the restful, lingering warmth of the sun. May this piece bring a sense of grounded tranquility, gentle warmth, and the spirit of far-off adventures into your home.

Behind the Studio Doors: The Story & Process
Beyond the frame lies a true backcountry memory. Before this canvas was painted, it was lived. Shade of the Summer Barn was born from an adventurous trip to La Posada de Los Farios, a working cattle ranch and fly fishing lodge nestled along Chile’s Cisnes River. Every morning began by stretching on the grass beside these historic wooden structures before loading gear into the trucks, leaving an indelible memory of how these aging buildings quietly anchored the remote landscape.
To bring this memory to life back in the studio, I played with the strong, angular lines of the old barn structure standing steady against the fluid movement of the surrounding greenery. While the actual building bears the gray wood of decades past, I deliberately chose vibrant hues of pink and blue to emphasize its unique presence amidst the shifting shadows. It is not just a painting of a ranch building. It is a tribute to the slow rhythm of Patagonian life and the timeless charm of structures that remain standing against the odds.

The pink and purple hued landscape of this original painting depicts the magical impression of a forgotten era. Standing above the Crystal River in Marble, Colorado, the iconic Crystal Mill holds the echoes of its industrial past, now softened by time and surrounded by wild beauty. This piece is my play on that journey to a place that feels out of this world. While history tells us of the crowded mining days, it is really the feeling of the place, the lingering energy, and the dreamlike wonder of the landscape that remain with us. Through subtle variations of pinks, purples, and evening alpenglow, this canvas captures the quiet magic of a hidden mountain gem. May this piece invite an enduring sense of awe, imagination, and backcountry adventure into your life.

Behind the Studio Doors: The Story & Process
Beyond the frame lies a true backcountry memory. Before this canvas was painted, it was lived. Reaching the iconic Crystal Mill meant white-knuckling a treacherous six-mile 4x4 trail in a 20-year-old 4Runner, helping pull stranded rigs out of mountain rivers, and standing in awe of a piece of Colorado history softened by wild alpenglow.
To capture the lingering magic of that remote valley, I deliberately stepped away from typical postcard realism. By pairing organic river shapes with a dreamlike palette of electric purples, heartwarming pinks, and shadow-drenched aspens, this piece brings a vibrant, living energy to a historic space. It is not just a painting of a landmark. It is a celebration of the wild journey it takes to get there, carrying the authentic provenance of real backcountry grit and artistic intention.

This piece is near and dear to my heart as my home rests at the feet of these two beautiful mountains, Buffalo and Red, in Silverthorne, Colorado. From my deck, I’m able to watch the changing moods, colors, textures and light over these peaks throughout the year. It was only right to include a piece capturing these two peaks in the Gore range in the snow focused collection. In the winter evenings, the sun sets between Buffalo and Red mountain often blanket the surrounding trees and snow in a pink glow. May you feel the sacred warmth of the sunset glow across the cold snow packed peaks. I know my soul feels the ache of home when I witness one of these magical evenings in our valley. While this year left me personally longing for more snow, I do believe this piece was born of my hope to see a deep snowy winter in the near future here at home.
You’ll find several “easter eggs” in this painting. Given the piece is grounded in a real life location, my home, I felt it important to tie in the coordinates for both Red and Buffalo mountains in the details of the ridgelines to bridge the dreamlike painting and the IRL location. Likewise, strokes of the brush also contain murmurs of conservation. These emerge to capture my personal longing to preserve our stunning backyard, the Gore range. Likewise, the subtle prompts to “save” play on the impulsive feeling when a view is just too good and all you want to do is save it in your heart and mind forever. Finally, there is a nod to the joy Buffalo brings to those backcountry skiing souls tackling the famous Silver Couloir. For many, this is a bucket list in our local community reserved for the most pristine snowpacks. May these conditions come again in our near futures. While we wait, this piece is sure to lift your spirits and entice you to dream of upcoming mountain adventures.

Chasing Winter Collection
This year, the snow didn’t show up, so I went into the studio and made my own. This collection is a heartfelt attempt to conjure the snow I couldn’t find on the peaks. From electric blues to neon whites, these pieces are how I filled the cup that the mountains left empty. It’s my way of finding the healing quiet of the powder even when the ground stayed bare. It’s raw, it’s honest, and it’s the only way I knew how to survive a winter that wasn’t. I hope you can feel the soul of the winter I so damn wished for in every stroke. This abstract painting depicts the beloved Peak One of the Tenmile mountain range in Frisco, CO. As the first peak visible in the range from I-70, this mountain is the backdrop for the small mountain towns of Frisco and Dillon. I’ve fallen in love with this mountain pillar in all seasons, but it’s winter beauty really hits your soul deeply. At 12,805 feet, it’s the northernmost major mountain in the Tenmile range (which encompasses Breckenridge ski resort). With such prominence over Dillon Reservoir, I’ve adored hiking to it’s summit with view over the valley and the Gore range.
In this piece, I’ve captured this sacred pillar of our Summit county community under the snow of winter. To marry this abstract landscape painting to the peak in real life (IRL), I’ve incorporated the key coordinates into the ridgelines and also highlighted the classic ski couloir. This peak really touches your heart in the early morning or evening hours under the soft hue of pink skies. I hope that you feel this presence deeply through this piece. If you ever find yourself in the area make sure to add a side quest to hike or ski Peak One onto your to-do list. You’ll thank me for sure.

The pink and purple tinted mountain range of this abstract painting depicts the impression of a memory. The awe of stunning mountain landscapes lead you to want to capture the place and moment for future reflection. I’ve often felt this standing in our wilds here in the west. This painting is my play on this desire to capture good times and good views in our woods. While we may command our minds to store the images perfectly, it’s really the impression of the shapes, colors, and textures and the feelings they conjure that remain with us for life. May you revisit the wild spaces in your mind and feel the joy, freedom, and whimsy of the places you treasure for many years to come.

This original piece is inspired by an alpine touring day in deep powder to an alpine lake outside of Breckenridge, Colorado. Some days on the trail in winter can feel the exquisiteness of our craggy mountains deeply in your bones. Although winter is typically projected as being shades of white, I often see the sky and atmosphere lending their color via reflections to the white snow. In this piece, you’ll see bold brush work in deep pinks, purples and blues rather than an austere white snow surrounding the iced over lake. It’s this colorful edging of the winter world that awakens my soul as my skis slice through powder on the trail. May you feel this joy too.

There is a distinct kind of magic that only happens when you’re tucked away in a remote ski hut, off-the-grid and surrounded by towering peaks. This piece was born from my absolute love for passing time with family and friends in the stunning ski hut systems of the West sharing laughs, tired legs, and good company after a long day in the snow.
Based on a real-life A-frame ski hut in Alaska, this piece captures that exact feeling of cozy, pure backcountry joy.
Look closely at the snow—true to form, you won’t find any flat white here! Instead, I’ve dialed up the intensity with electric blues and cool teals to make the fiery, unapologetic orange of the hut truly pop. Complete with skis on the porch and a subtle reminder above the door, this piece is a vibrant celebration of the winter spaces that feed our souls.
Bring the warmth of winter adventure into your space.

This original painting captures the magic of grabbing that first gondola chair on a ski day here in Colorado. The joy of being the first to slice through the powder and create your own turns in pristine snow. I brought the sacred feeling of this moment into the piece with the subtle brush strokes and soft hues of color across the fresh snow on the mountain. The glaze helps to create the dreamlike feeling that comes with this extremely rare moment in a ski season. While catching the first chair, you cherish the loneliness of the mountain before the day’s skiers join which I’ve infused into this piece in the composition layout creating an empty expanse in the terrain. May this dreamlike piece bring you joy like that lottery ticket of first chair on the mountain.

A panoramic continuation of my time walking in the shadows of Nepal, "Nepali Giants" celebrates the vast, unfolding skyline of a mountain range steeped in sacredness.
Designed to carry your eyes across the full weight of the peaks, this wide-format painting leans into a striking visual rhythm. The perilous balance between light and dark emerges on an epic scale, contrasting icy, sunlit peaks of neon teal with the deep, mysterious shadows of midnight blue.
Set against a high-intensity, unapologetically vibrant sky, this piece brings the expansive, soul-stirring energy of the world's highest mountains directly to your walls.

‘Annapurna Range in Snow’ is a tribute to the mighty giants of Nepal peaks that ignited my soul and left me completely awed by their wisdom.
This piece explores the intense duality of high-altitude mountaineering: the immense joy of the climb versus the inherent, humbling danger of the wild. To capture this perilous balance, I leaned into a striking visual contrast. A natural Yin and Yang emerges along the ridgeline, splitting the canvas between brilliant, electric teals and the profound depth of deep blues and purples all set against a blazing, high-intensity sky.
Bring the sacred, powerful energy of the Himalayas into your home as a daily reminder of the beautiful balance we all navigate on our journeys.

It’s a pure joy to witness the first snow layered over the magical fall colors in our Colorado mountains. The initial snow dusting often allows the aspen’s bright colors to peak through for just a few days. This is our mountain equivalent of fully ripened fruit and should be savored. I felt a strong desire to capture this shifting of season and retiring of color from our great western landscapes here at home. Bold brush strokes of fall oranges, reds, and yellows come into transition with the cooler hues of winter snow. While this change in warm colors to cool tones can feel unsettling, it also brings a quieter beauty to our surrounding space. May you feel the reverence for nature’s ever changing seasons.

The jagged Gore Range in Colorado inspired this abstract painting. As one of the most remote mountain ranges in the lower 48, it’s rugged peaks just ask to be pondered by a paintbrush. Since my home sits at the base of this range, I’m forever inspired by it’s changing moods and colors. In this piece, I’ve emphasized the angular nature of the peaks with the composition of the mountains on the canvas. The cool teals, purples, and blues of the acrylic paint capture the subtle color shifts of the Gore mountain range in the winter. May this piece bring a sense of ruggedness to your walls and lift your spirit to explore our wild peaks here in Colorado. I hope you feel the energy that these peaks give to me through this original painting. You know I do love to share the beauty of our wonderful state through colorful art. If you’d like to see a wonderful view of the Gore range, check out the trailhead for Acorn Creek. It’s a must see in our local area.

This original painting was inspired by alpine touring in the evening at my local trail, Spruce Creek, in Breckenridge, CO. I’m a lover of the big spruce forest this trail climbs through to the alpine splendor of Mohawk lakes. In the heart of winter, the spruce trees are weighed down by deep fresh powder creating a snow globe aesthetic that is hard to beat. In this piece, I’ve drawn on the dreamlike wonder that you feel touring through this stretch of woods. The trees overtake you in the painting as in real life. May you feel the satisfying glide of your skis through the fresh powder as you reflect on this piece. The glazing effects help to create a magical essence to the piece like the experience of the trail itself.

A late evening Nordic ski inspired this abstract landscape painting. I’m an avid Nordic skier with a sweet spot for the early evening hours at my local Frisco Nordic center in our heavy winter months here in Colorado. With this piece, I give you the opportunity to embrace the awe of the final orange glow over the fluffy snow covered pine and fir trees. May you feel the joy of solitude that a stiff cold but colorful evening ski can bring. If you’re a fellow lover of snow time on cross country or skate skies, don’t miss out on the lovely trails along the peninsula on Dillon Reservoir at Frisco’s Nordic center. It’s a fine place to either get your winter cardio or simply enjoy a casual glide through the trees, mountains, and lake on a short winter’s day.

This piece was inspired by the subtle beauty found in a silent Nordic ski. I’m a fan of spending quality time on skis with minimal audio distractions at my local Nordic center in Frisco, Colorado. The silence somehow brings out the beauty around you on the brisk winter days. You’ll notice that dainty dark squirrel searching for his snack in the snow covered firs, the song of the chickadees, and the colors across the faraway mountains. This piece brings out these impressions from my hometown ski trails in our icy winter days. May the piece give you the space to embrace the beauty of our natural world too.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of slicing through fresh snow under a wide-open sky. I painted this piece right after a backcountry alpine tour near Breckenridge, and honestly, I was just trying to bottle up the pure joy of that day.
If you’ve ever been out in the Colorado high country, you know the view…those impossibly steep slopes and the classic, hardy spruce and pine trees just blanketed in winter. But my favorite part of the afternoon is always the way the light tricks your eyes as the sun starts to dip. Instead of just painting a block of white snow, I packed the late-day shadows with vibrant sprinkles of color including lots of soft pinks, deep blues, and teals.
This is a piece meant for anyone who leaves their heart in the mountains. It's bright, it's full of energy, and it’s a little reminder of what it feels like to be out there in the quiet of the woods.

Howdy! I’m Caley Van Cleave a Colorado-based artist, lifelong rambler, and a self-proclaimed color maximalist. Inspired by the vastness of the American West, I take sketches and memories from my outdoor adventures and dial up the intensity—bringing the hidden purples of a sunrise snowbank and the electric joy of the wild straight to the canvas.
From my home base at 9,000 feet in Silverthorne, CO, or out on the road in my Airstream, I paint to capture the emotional impact of rugged mountain sunshine and red clay canyons. If it’s bright, bold, and celebrates our stunning natural world, I’m enamored by it.
You won’t find any beige here. I bring the ridiculous, joyful color combinations of our wild spaces directly to the canvas so you can celebrate a world of beautiful, vibrant adventure right in your own space.

The warm pinks, deep indigo blues, and purple landscape of this original painting depicts the quiet charm of a hidden backcountry retreat. Tucked away in solitude of nature, this secluded cabin holds the memory of simpler times, enveloped by the peaceful stillness of the wilderness. This piece is my celebration of those remote escapes that offer a refuge from the modern world. While history tells us of the rugged pioneers and loggers who built these shelters, it is really the feeling of solstice, the gentle rustle of the trees, and the warm, welcoming light of the evening sky that remain with us. Through rich layers of vibrant hues, this canvas captures the nostalgic magic of a forgotten cabin. May this piece invite an enduring sense of sanctuary, tranquility, and backcountry adventure into your life.

Still Standing Collection
