'Winter Alpine Lake' | Art Print | Chasing Winter Collection

from $49.00

This piece is inspired by an alpine touring day in deep powder to an alpine lake outside of Breckenridge, Colorado. Some days on the trail in winter can feel the exquisiteness of our craggy mountains deeply in your bones. Although winter is typically projected as being shades of white, I often see the sky and atmosphere lending their color via reflections to the white snow. In this piece, you’ll see bold brush work in deep pinks, purples and blues rather than an austere white snow surrounding the iced over lake. It’s this colorful edging of the winter world that awakens my soul as my skis slice through powder on the trail. May you feel this joy too.

Chasing Winter Collection

This year, the snow didn’t show up, so I went into the studio and made my own. This collection is a heartfelt attempt to conjure the snow I couldn’t find on the peaks. From electric blues to neon whites, these pieces are how I filled the cup that the mountains left empty. It’s my way of finding the healing quiet of the powder even when the ground stayed bare. It’s raw, it’s honest, and it’s the only way I knew how to survive a winter that wasn’t. I hope you can feel the soul of the winter I so damn wished for in every stroke. Imagine walking into your room and being instantly enveloped in the glowing, crisp atmosphere of a high-country winter day.

Winter Alpine Lake brings a vivid splash of backcountry magic into your home. The striking turquoise waters of the iced-over lake create an inviting focal point, while the surrounding snowpack—painted in bold, joyous strokes of deep pink, violet, and electric blue—radiates warmth and light across the entire canvas. It’s like opening a window to a secret, snow-dusted sanctuary, filling your room with a serene yet exhilarating mountain glow every single day.

Living with Winter Alpine Lake is a daily immersion into quiet joy, deep peace, and the invigorating spirit of winter adventure.

As you pause to take in the bold, reflective colors and majestic craggy peaks, the canvas offers a refreshing mental reset—much like that soul-awakening feeling when your skis slice through fresh powder. It invites you to step out of the daily hustle and into a state of still, reverent awe, reminding you of the quiet beauty waiting in the wild and the pure, childlike happiness of exploring the high country.

Howdy! I’m Caley Van Cleave a Colorado-based artist, lifelong rambler, and a self-proclaimed color maximalist. Inspired by the vastness of the American West, I take sketches and memories from my outdoor adventures and dial up the intensity—bringing the hidden purples of a sunrise snowbank and the electric joy of the wild straight to the canvas.

From my home base at 9,000 feet in Silverthorne, CO, or out on the road in my Airstream, I paint to capture the emotional impact of rugged mountain sunshine and red clay canyons. If it’s bright, bold, and celebrates our stunning natural world, I’m enamored by it.

You won’t find any beige here. I bring the ridiculous, joyful color combinations of our wild spaces directly to the canvas so you can celebrate a world of beautiful, vibrant adventure right in your own space.
